Within this project I work with the discrepancy between the original and the copy, hype and reality. In Marseille, France you will find an exact copy of Michelangelo’s David statue, offered to the city of Marseille by Jules Cantini in 1903. The statue is made of Carrara marble, just like the original, and stands by the beach to erode in the salty winds and rain. In Florence, the Michelangelo’s David is preserved very well under fixed conditions. Does it lose value by distancing itself from the place it was meant to be - perhaps public area?
